Any and every fashionista should be reading this post. The new reality show "Fashion Star," a combination of "American Idol" and "Project Runway," hosted by former model Elle Macpherson airs tonight on NBC at 9:30 p.m. for a 90 minute premiere special. The show will feature 14 contestants competing to get their designs picked up by retail executives from Saks', Macy's, and H&M. The contestants range from a school teacher to former model to a former Microsoft engineer.
Each week the contestants will make a different article of clothing in three variations. Seeking advice from fashion moguls, Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie, and John Varvatos, about their designs and creativity. The final designs will be showcased before the panel of retail executives who will then bid on the apparel to be carried exclusively in their store. Each executive is permitted to bid on as many designs as they see fit for their store to carry. However, the one designer whose apparel wasn't selected will be eliminated each episode.
THE BEST PART... After each episode, because we all now things are never live in the world of reality TV, the designs will be available in the retail stores under the "Fashion Star" brand! Finally! The first show where we as viewers see designs we like and can get them instantaneously. Saks will carry them in all of its stores, H&M in 100 of its 236 U.S. stores and Macy's in its flagship location in Manhattan.
