Star Spangled Sexy

22 June 2013

July 4th is about celebrating America's independence and is commonly associated with fireworks, barbecues, parades, picnics, and concerts. But no one ever considers this national holiday of independence to correlate with fashion independence. The freedom we have to express ourselves through what we wear is often underrated.

Remember when picking an outfit for school was the hardest part of your day? Some kids don't have the luxury of wearing what they want and have a required uniform. This may seem like nothing to some, but I have a friend who attended a school that didn't even allow nail polish, headbands, or jewelry. A little much, huh?

Think that's bad? I found this list of laws, restrictions, and customs, mostly pertaining to women, around the world relating to their apparel.

E.D. Lowe and K.A. Anspach (1973), Toward a definition of Freedom in Dress, Family and Consumer Sciences Research Journal, Vol. 1, No. 4, 246-250 (1973), DOI: 10.1177/1077727X7300100402,

Don't take the little things for granted we are entitled to as Americans.

On that note, the 4th of July is quickly approaching and time is ticking to score the perfect outfit for the day's festivities. Luckily, I've done all the hard work for you. Here are a few of my favorite stores and websites with cute and AFFORDABLE clothes to leave you looking star spangled sexy!
You're sure to give Lady Liberty a run for her money.
