A new season means new trends. Winter happens to be my
personal favorite because of the cozy sweaters, knee high boots, and infinity
scarves. Winter’s about covering up and being comfortable, which means less
pressure to look fit and toned in a swimsuit. This winter’s fashion trends
involve a lot of colorful patterns and fabrics creating a femme and voluptuous
style.

Pastels aren’t just for spring. Who says you have to wear
boring grays and depressing black during the cold weather months? You can
incorporate color into your wardrobe to add some pizzazz to a neutral look
whether it’s through clothing, accessories, or shoes. I personally like the
blush colored clothing at retailers. A soft rosy pink pair of skinny jeans an
off white sweater is the ultimate cross between comfort and style. Did I
mention that pink is a big color trend this winter too? Don’t go overboard with
cotton candy or obnoxious neon pink because instead of compliments you’ll just
get weird looks from people.

One
trend that is sure to land you some looks for the right reasons is the tartan
pattern. What the heck is that? Tartan is a pattern consisting of criss-crossed
horizontal and vertical bands in multiple colors. Be careful not to go
overboard with this. Choose one aspect of your look to feature tartan like a
blazer, skirt, or dress. Stick with neutral tones to compliment the pattern and
balance out your ensemble like the look below.
For
those who aren’t into bold clothing, try a statement scarf. You can’t go wrong
with a chunky infinity, cotton chevron, or cable knit fringe scarf. Experiment
with colors, patterns, and textures with your scarf. Just be sure your stop is
a neutral white, beige, black, or grey if you want your scarf to be the WOW factor of your outfit.

Perhaps
you want to play it casual, winter white is a trend you’ll like. Dresses,
sweaters, jeans, skirts, you name it, it’s in style. The white after Labor Day
rule is ancient history. Because of its versatility, white can be worn for any occasion and in any style and still be sophisticated. Add a leopard print pump or
colored statement necklace for a pop of color.
My
personal favorite trend is the ankle boot. It’s the best of both worlds. You
have a stylish boot without the constraint of a shaft that is too tight or
loose around your calf. Ending right at the ankle, you can tuck your skinny
jeans or leggings inside or let your boot cut or flare bottoms hang over.
Heels, wedges, or flats, the designs are endless. I just scored the most
comfortable pair of heeled booties I have ever worn, and I have A LOT of shoes,
at Old Navy for just $15! That’s affordable enough to buy a pair for yourself
and as a gift for your friend.
Any of
these trends will make excellent holiday gifts for your fashion loving friends.
I tend to stick to large retailers like Old Navy, Forever 21, and Marshall’s
for designer apparel within a reasonable budget. If you have the time, try
searching online boutiques for these trends. Through my experience, southern boutiques have the cutest products at the best prices and offer free shipping
with no minimum purchase. You can’t beat that.
So what trend will you be
sporting this winter season?
