When David's Bridal contacted me to team up with them for prom season, I felt like I was in high school all over. Ironically, I actually found my senior prom dress at David's Bridal in the exclusive David's Prom shop. The long, blush chiffon gown had a simple strand of beading around the bust and sweetheart neckline. And if I'm not mistaken, I think I spent under $100! After prom, I had the dress hemmed and wore it to weddings and other formal functions so I really got my money's worth. Want to see? Here's Kelly circa 2008.
Seven years later, sweetheart prom dresses are still a major trend. For those reading this that are like "what the heck is a sweetheart dress?" Sweetheart refers to the neckline which is low at the front and shaped like the top of a heart. Now that we've got that straightened out, can we take a moment to admire how gorgeous this cobalt gown is?! The Strapless Jewel Encrusted Tie Back Chiffon Dress is a classic choice for ladies this prom season. This particular dress is a modern take on the sweetheart neckline with jewels lining the bodice and back.

Sophistication in the front and sexy in the back. A modest back cutout adds a flirty touch to the gown without going overboard. I love how the jewels line the bottom of the cutout to blend with the detail of the front of the dress. I feel like this is what my prom dress would look like with a makeover for 2015.

Keep your accessories to a minimum. The details of the dress are elaborate enough. A pair of dangle earrings OR a necklace is all you need. I love me some wedges! If you plan on dancing the night away, I highly suggest going with a wedge sandal for comfort.

The open back is simple and doesn't draw attention away from the awe-factor of the modest neckline and slit. Since all the focus is on the front of this dress, I'd have my hair done in loose curls or beach waves with some added volume. Keep the makeup neutral with warm browns and nudes to compliment the shimmer in this dress.
There's a lot of flash going on with this dress, so again, I would keep accessories to a minimum. An elegant dangle earring and chunky bracelet is just enough jewelry to compliment the look without becoming to gaudy.

Be the belle of the ball minus the glass slipper and pumpkin in a fairy-tale inspired gown. Layers of tulle aren't just for wedding dresses anymore. Designers are bringing the dresses you dream of wearing as a young girl to reality this prom season. This Open Back Beaded Strap Glitter Tulle Ball Gown has just the right amount of beading and tulle to create that fairy-tale look. The more layers of tulle a dress has, the larger it makes your hips appear.
The detail is all in the back of this dress. The intricate bead work combined with the lace lining is elegant and sophisticated. The layer of glitter tulle really ties the whole dress together to not only make you feel like a princess, but look like one too.
The focal point of this dress is the back. To keep your hair from hiding the detail, try a side swept ponytail with loose curls. Steer clear of any bun hairstyles unless you're looking to achieve that fairy godmother look. I advise sticking with neutral tones again for this dress when getting your makeup done. Go a little darker with rich browns and gold hues to make your eyes really pop. A mauve lip would look stunning paired with the blush tones of the dress and a good contour to define your cheekbones.
The sequins and beading are a delicate touch to this gorgeous gown so steer clear of bulky accessories. A pair of dangle earrings would be the only accessory I'd choose for this look, but if you want more bling, opt for a matching rhinestone bracelet or bangle.

This is my personal favorite style for prom which I call the Trendsetter. Dare to be different and try a couture gown (minus the couture price). This Corset Gown with Floral 3D Texture Skirt is worthy of the red carpet and maybe worn by Rihanna or Blake Lively. The form fitting bodice and flowing floral skirt create a feminine shape on any body type. And as all ladies know, black is a naturally slimming color.
This dress is all about the 3D floral design. Looking at this on the rack, I was apprehensive, but after my model, Alison tried it on, we both fell in love. It's not a bulky, heavy dress that weighs you down. It's surprisingly light and very easy to move in. Most prom dresses have some sort of jewel, beading, or sequin detail. This dress is a bit unconventional with none of those details which definitely makes it that much more chic. Plus, it has pockets!!
A different dress calls for a different hairstyle. Since the bottom of the dress is so busy, you want to counter it with simplicity on top. For this, I suggest a top knot bun or low sock bun. Buns are very elegant and clean. And very rare is it to see a girl walking into prom with a simple sock bun or top knot. The standard hairstyle is curls or elaborate braided up-dos. Since this isn't a standard dress, I don't recommend those styles. As for makeup, go with a sultry smokey eye and pouty nude/blush lip. A dramatic eye will look fabulous with your bun and really make your eyes pop. Since your hair will be pulled up, a good contour of your cheekbones is crucial to topping off this bold look.
I'm sure you know the drill by now with accessories. Simplicity is key. A pearl headband is a nice compliment to your bun. I suggest stud earrings over dangle earrings for this dress. A bracelet would also suffice this prom look. I don't like necklaces with up-dos, and again we want all the focus to be on the floral detail of the dress, not your jewelry. As I mentioned, this dress does have pockets, so you can keep your cell phone close at all times for tons of selfies. But if you prefer a clutch, anything black will do.
