Garden State Grads

08 June 2015

I was born with a gene that is common in most women; it's called the shopping gene. Symptoms include the urge to have the latest fashion, anxiety when waiting for the mailman to deliver online orders, the need to have a different outfit every time you go out, and an uncontrollable desire to buy shoes. Let me tell you, it's a real struggle.

An even bigger struggle I was faced with was shopping online. A lot of my favorite fashions are only available online, and as a high school student (back in the day of course!), the last thing my parents wanted to do was lend me their credit card. So I was forced to shop the old fashion way by actually going to malls and stores. While this may not sound like a terrible thing, remember that a symptom of the shopping gene is the urge to have the latest fashion. It killed me to not get the fashions I wanted online because I didn't have a lousy checking account or credit card.

Shout out to my mom, Vicki! You gotta love her!
I have to give a shout out to my mom for introducing me to my first student checking account (good looking out Vicki!). It was a mix between her being fed up with me asking for a credit card to shop online and wanting me to start building my line of credit. It really taught me how to be financially responsible by keeping my
checkbook balances, paying my bills on time, and making sure I keep a reserve in my account.

With graduation quickly approaching, I'm sure that other girls with the shopping gene are freaking out trying to find the perfect graduation day dress, plus dresses for all the grad parties.
