Top Lipstick Colors of 2013

29 December 2013

They say diamonds are a girl's best friend, but what about lipstick? Hey, you can never have too many friends. Plus, lipstick is a lot more affordable than a diamond.

Lipstick can take your look to the next level or make you look like a total clown. Choosing the right color for your skin tone and making sure it works with your ensemble can be a real challenge. That's why I like to stick to neutral colors that compliment my skin tone and go with all my outfits. I don't mind spending the money on a good brand of my go-to lipstick color. If I'm trying to make a statement or experimenting with color, I tend to go for the cheaper brands like Wet n' Wild or NYC.

So with 2013 almost over, I thought I'd share my favorite lipsticks of the year with you.

I love this Kardashian neutral lip set. I'm not one for lip liner, but it really helps to define the lip and blend with the gloss. Definitely my #1 go-to lipstick.

This lipstick by L'Oreal Paris is a bit pricey ($9.99), but like I said before, I don't mind spending that on a neutral color that I get a lot of use out of. I bought this earlier in the year and it has been my BFF through all four seasons. I got great quality with this purchase.

Gotta love my $.99 NYC lipstick. I bought this color to try a new look and it has turned into one of my staples. In the warm months, it really compliments my tan. During the fall and winter, I like to wear this color with blacks and browns for a feminine touch.

The Kardashian's make my faves again. Don't let the name of this color fool you, it's neutral enough to wear well into the winter months. It doesn't show well in this photo, but the color is a mix of a soft pink and warm beige. I love this color because it's noticeable enough to give your lips some color, but not look gaudy.

I just got this for Christmas, but I am already going to this color as my staple. This rose colored gloss from Forever 21 has a matte finish which is a huge trend with nail polish. If it's good enough for nails, why not lips too?!

A timeless staple in every girl's makeup case should be a trusty tube of red lipstick. I have about 12 different red lipsticks, but Kate by Rimmel London is my favorite. It's a true red color that lasts all day long and goes on smooth.

This red looks a lot darker in person and for only $.99, I couldn't pass it up. I tend to use this red for special occasions or when I'm going out at night.

I have a pretty light skin tone so soft pinks suit me best. Another pricey lipstick by Rimmel London is well worth the money because of its smooth application, subtle color, and long lasting wear.

I saw this color on my favorite beauty vlogger, Stephanie Michelle Ledda, otherwise known as SML_x0 and had to have it. This pale pink has a subtle shimmer to it which I love to glam up my look.

So what should you be on the lookout for in 2014? These three colors are the top trends shown during Fashion Week by dozens of designers.
