The mother of all music festivals, Coachella, is upon us. Us Jersey folk are used to festivals like Bamboozle, Warped Tour and Skate & Surf Fest. But these festivals are nothing compared to the star-studded event in Cali. When it comes to music festivals, it's all about bohemian vibes and fashion trends. Out of all music festivals, I must say that Coachella is more about the fashion than it is the music. Photos swarm the web of celebrities and their posse not because they were in attendance of the festival, but because of what they showed up in. Some outfits more ridiculous than others, you have to give them props because if buzz is what they were looking to create, they certainly did a good job.
Well, I don't know about you, but my personal style isn't as bold as others when it comes to the boho look. If I don't feel comfortable and confident in what I'm wearing, no matter the trend or occasion, I'm not wearing it. So I've compiled my favorite music festival fashions for the more modest fashionista like myself.
Music festival fashion is all about loose fitting dresses, crop tops, destroyed denim and fringe. Introduce at least one of these staples into your ensemble and you'll be stylin' and profilin'.
You can't go wrong in a maxi dresses, rompers or coordinating crop & pant set. To achieve the bohemian look, opt for looser fitting dresses made from lighter materials like cotton or chiffon. (By the way, how gorgeous is the black & white print maxi dress from Lulu's below?!) Rompers are a big trend this spring so finding one won't be difficult. This suede romper below screams Coachella to me. Add a floppy hat, some gladiator sandals and your favorite pair of shades to complete the look. Coordinated crop & pant sets are making a comeback. A few years ago if you heard someone mention a coordinated pant suit, you'd think of grandma getting dressed up for Sunday church. Now, thanks to celebrities like Rihanna and Beyoncé, matching sets are making their way back to the fashion scene. When going for the bohemian vibe, it's all about the print you choose. I recommend anything Aztec, tie-dye, or western.

Shoes are just as important as the clothing itself. Booties, espadrille sandals, and gladiator sandals are amongst the top shoe trends for the music festival scene. Stick to earthy tones when choosing a color. Not only do they fit with the boho trend, but they're neutrality will allow you to style them with all your outfits. I'm a bit partial to the gladiator sandals myself.
From one extreme to the other, crop tops and floor length tunics are a must-have for festival fashionistas. Sheer crop tops, lace trimmed tanks and high-low tunics are not only a comfortable option when looking for the perfect outfit. I like to pair longer tunics with shorts to balance it out. Crop tops look great with printed palazzo pants (total hippie look and I love it!)
Overalls Festival Denim Shorts Tassle Wrap Shorts Floral Flare Pants Tribal Print Pants Lace Crochet Shorts
We can't forget about the ever-so popular kimono. A festival favorite, kimonos are a great investment to make for your wardrobe. There's nothing more stylish in the spring/summer than a pair of skinny jeans, tank top and kimono. A nice added touch to any of the looks I recommended above, it doesn't hurt to have a kimono in your closet (especially at the super affordable prices of my picks below!).
What's an outfit without accessories?! Follow the 3 "F's" of festival fashion when accessorizing - Fringe, Feathers, Floppy Hats. But be careful not to overdue it. There's a fine line between accessorizing and looking gaudy. My personal favorite trend is temporary tattoos. Silver and gold temporary tattoos act just like jewelry without the bulk.
Not going to any concerts but still love the festival fashions I mentioned? Go for it! Fashion is all about expressing yourself. If you like it, then wear it honey! At the end of the day, your opinion is the only one that matters.
