2015 VMA Red Carpet Trend: The Little Black Dress

31 August 2015

A major trend on the red carpet at the 2015 Video Music Awards was the classic black dress. The infamous little black dress got a makeover by these lovely ladies. Low cuts, high slits, lace and sequins were reoccurring themes in some of the best looks of the night. I mean, no matter what season it is, you can never go wrong with a black dress.

My favorite black dress of the night goes to Chrissy Teigen. There's a lot going on with this dress but it all just works. The lace detail throughout the torso compliments the sheerness of the skirt. But can we talk about those slits?! Girlfriend needs a killer pair of legs to pull that off and a lot of faith that the wind won't blow!

I love how Chrissy went with an updo to keep the focus on the dress. Her makeup was minimal except for the bold lip which suited the look. I also like how she strayed from accessories. They would have just been too much. So Chrissy Teigen, The Fashion Minute Fashion Police applaud you on your 2015 VMA look.

It wouldn't be a Fashion Minute post if I didn't share some affordable red carpet worthy black dresses. Boohoo.com is one of my go-to sites for sexy, fun and flirty dresses at an affordable price. All of these dresses are under $55!

Call Me Caitlyn: Look for Less

02 June 2015

The Internet is still buzzing with the hype of Bruce Jenner's debut as Caitlyn Jenner. I'm not posting to start a debate about what I think of her life choices or appearance. This post is all about recreating Caitlyn's posh look in her Vanity Fair photo shoot.

Everyone will be calling you Caitlyn in this dress!

Disney Comes to Kohl's with Lauren Conrad's Exclusive Minnie Mouse Collection

11 May 2015

Normally if I saw a mouse I'd be the first one to jump on the table screaming. But this mouse has me running to the store to revamp my wardrobe...Minnie Mouse that is. After her successful Cinderella Collection, Lauren Conrad has just launched her Minnie Mouse Collection exclusively at Kohls.

While some of the looks are a bit childish for my own personal style, more specifically, the shirts with a Minnie graphic, the collection as a whole is feminine, fun, and flirty. Polka dots are a hot print this summer and focal point of this collection.

My personal fave are the polka dot shorts. Paired with a plain blouse, cute wedges and dainty accessories, I'd make this a staple look for the summer.

What's your favorite piece?

Nikki Bella Makeup Tutorial

17 March 2015

I love me some wrestling. Yes, I know it's fake. No, I don't care. Do you watch soap operas for scripted shows? It's the same thing. Anyway, aside from a little bit on animosity towards her for dating my man (John Cena), Nikki Bella is one of my fashion icons. I love her sense of style. If you follow her on Instagram (@thenikkibella) you've probably already seen some of the risks she takes with her fashion, but it all works.

So on this beautiful Tuesday, otherwise known as Nikki Bella Pose Tuesday, I decided to transform into this WWE Diva. How'd I do?

So how'd I create this look?

1. Apply a pore minimizing primer to your entire face. Rimmel London Fix & Perfect Foundation Primer
2. Apply your favorite foundation to your entire face. Select a color as close to your skin tone as possible. I used Maybelline New York Dream Matte Mousse Foundation Nude.
3. Next is the contouring process. I used a foundation a few shades lighter than my complexion and a foundation a few shades darker than my complexion.  I suggest using L'Oreal Paris True Match Super-Blendable Compact Makeup. This compact is very easy to blend and feels so light. For tips on contouring, check out the Ultimate Cheat Sheet for Contouring from PopSugar.
4. To really accentuate my cheekbones like Nikki does with her contouring, I used my bh cosmetics Contour & Blush Palette.
6. Next I applied my Eylure Naturalites Double Lashes.
7. Once they were dried I applied a coat of mascara to the top and bottom lashes and used my liquid liner to go over my top lash line and lower lash line.
8. On my lids, I used e.l.f. Studio Baked Eyeshadow in Toasted with Moonlight Serenade in the crease.
9. Lastly I applied a combo of Gerard Cosmetics 1995 Lipstick and Gerard Cosmetics Nude Lipgloss and voila!

Nikki Bella or Kelly Moran....I can't tell! (I wish!)

Ariana Grande's EMA Look for Less

10 November 2014

I got one less problem now that I found an affordable version of Ariana Grande's EMA looks. She looked absolutely flawless as always. And that hair...gorgeous! I prefer her hair down, makes her look more mature.

Everyone's been giving her a lot of slack for showing a little cleavage...what cleavage? I'd hardly call the little bit of chest she's showing cleavage. After all, the girl is 21, so what's the big deal? Did anyone catch Nicki Minaj...I'm pretty sure she should have just went topless in her multiple outfit changes.

Ariana was dressed very age appropriate and trendy for her age.

Want to recreate her red carpet look? Snag this cut-out dress from Charlotte Russe for just $24.99.

Did you prefer the outfit she wore during the show? That was my personal favorite. A bit risky, but she pulled it off. A simple lace bralette like this one from H&M and midi lace skirt like this from Charlotte Russe and you have her look for under $50!

American Horror Story: Looks for Less

08 October 2014

It's that time again...a new season of American Horror Story! In honor of this glorious day, I had to do another post of character looks for less. The timing is perfect too with Halloween right around the corner. Remember my last AHS post from Asylum? If not, check it out here.

What I especially love about these looks is that most of the apparel and accessories are pieces in your wardrobe already. A little black dress, some black pumps, and sunglasses....BAM! you're the next Supreme.
