Fashion Police: Oscar Edition

04 March 2014

The 2014 Oscars are over, but the buzz about the red carpet fashion is only beginning. I'm usually very critical of the gowns, but I must say that there were more gowns I loved this year than hated.

Before I get to my favorite looks, I have to  talk about the 'WTF' looks of the night because let's face it, it's more fun to pick apart horrible fashion.

Liza Minelli and Bette Midler...please fire your stylists. Liza honey, what were you thinking? You're well past the age where experimenting with your hair is acceptable. I'm not quite sure what is going with this outfit. Did inspiration for this come from the cookie monster? Papa Smurf? It's just..no..no Liza. And Bette baby, that dress was not flattering on you. You look like a walking poinsettia.

My dearest Pharrell, I tolerated your Smokey the bear forest ranger hat. But I must draw the line with your latest fashion choices. Shorts to the Oscars?! I think your wife grabbed your outfit by mistake.

On a more positive note, I'm loving the sparkle and shine I saw from some celebs. There were a lot of styles that I think would make a beautiful prom dress like Olivia Wilde's, Lupita Nyong'o, and Amy Adams simple yet elegant gowns.

There's a fabulous website that actually rents red carpet dresses from a variety of designers. Rent the Runway, ever heard of it? After all, who has thousands of dollars to spend on a dress you might wear once, twice tops? Most dresses are under $150 to rent from designers like Badgley Mishka, Narcisco Rodriguez, and Vera Wang. I took it upon myself to recreate some of my favorite looks from the Oscars with a price tag that probably wouldn't even cover one earring on the real look. Your welcome in advance.
