2015 Summer Fashion Trend: Dresses Galore!

31 May 2015

There's nothing more feminine to me than dresses. I love the versatility of styles on the market right now for the summer. A personal favorite that will always be my first go-to dress is the ever so chic maxi dress. Ladies, let's face it - sometimes you just don't have the time to shave your legs or just flat out don't feel like it! Maxi dresses hide that leg stubble and allow you to sit comfortably (because sometimes you just don't feel like crossing your legs!). The 2015 Summer Fashion Trends are forecasting a lot of maxi dresses ranging from casual which can be worn to run errands or at the beach to sophisticated which can be worn to an event or gala.

Another 2015 Summer Fashion Trend is lace. Lace dresses are the ultimate flirty fashion staple to have in your closet (in my opinion!). Lace overlays are a more modest and sophisticated style for more formal events, while lace cutouts are a sexy option for date night.

White is the color of summer....at least in my closet.  Year after year, white is always in style and a top trend for the season. Nothing accentuates a tan better than a white hot dress. From bohemian vibes to a cocktail party to a night in the club, you can't go wrong with a creamy white dress.

What's the morale of this post my fellow fashionistas? Dresses are a must-have in your summer wardrobe! Whether you like the tomboy look or keep it super feminine, there are styles available for everyone's taste.

All the dresses featured in this post are available at Boohoo.com. This site is becoming one of my favorites because of the large selection of apparel and accessories and the variety of sizes. Boohoo has petite to plus size apparel in all trends for all seasons. It's about time a website did this!

What I Wore: Sweater Dress & Riding Boots

18 November 2014

The best time to wear a striped sweater, is all the time! One with a collar, turtle neck..that's the kind! Name that show! ............. lol who remembers that from SpongeBob? Yes, I said SpongeBob.

Anyway, can you guess the theme of this post? I recently got this striped sweater dress from Old Navy. Not only did I get a lot of compliments on it, but it was so comfortable. This dress is the equivalent of bumming it around in sweatpants, except super cute!

The boots were an early birthday present from mommadukes. If you read my post on wide calf boots then you're familiar with my struggle to find boots to fit my not even wide calves! Well these boots are in fact NOT wide calf and fit perfectly. They have some stretch to them and dexflex comfort soles. (highly recommend these!)

My bracelet is from Kohl's and I get so many compliments every time I wear it. It's a timeless classic and was under $15! (plus you know Kohl's always has a sale going on)

Lauren Conrad's Style Advice for Working Girls

06 March 2012

lauren conrad

I head into New York quite often and the outfits I see on some women going to work is just atrocious. One of the fashion capitals of the world and you'd think that people would know how to dress when going into a place of work, ha, well think again. It's not just in New York, I see it everywhere. Friends going on interviews with low cut shirts, see-through blouses, or short skirts. Are you cringing as you read this because you've made some of these mistakes?

I stumbled across this article by Lauren Conrad which couldn't explain proper work attire better no matter your job.

Dress Coding: 9 to 5 Style
Work attire is a tricky subject. While there are a few general rules of thumb for office dressing, it really depends on where you work. Different environments call for different ensembles. In the upcoming weeks, I’ll decode what’s appropriate for a variety of workplace settings in a new blog series called, Dress Coding. For now, I’ll provide you with some general tips on dressing for work.

If you’re new to the working world, I should warn you: Beware of the fashion police otherwise known as “Human Resources” and your fellow co-workers. Committing an at-work fashion faux pas is a legitimate offense. Just because you didn’t get the pink slip for your crime (crime = teal tube top) doesn’t mean you’re getting away with it (it = teal tub top)... Wearing the wrong threads has the potential to distort your image as a valued employee and may even prevent you from getting ahead. If Wendy Worker sports tight skirts, sheer blouses and routinely puts her “girls” on display at work, her co-workers may have a difficult time taking her (and her wacko wardrobe) seriously. Therefore, as with all occasions, dress for success—and mean it, especially when you’re on the clock!

Even though all work environments have different rules as to what is and isn’t okay to wear, the following commandments cover most of the general dos and don’ts of dressing for work:
  • Thou shalt never let your outfit outshine your work. (Yes, creatives and fashionistas, this applies to you as well!)
  • Thou shalt abstain from clothing with obnoxious logos. (Besides Bebe logo tops being so 1999, no one wants a walking billboard in their office.)
  • You shall avoid all sexy and revealing clothing. Never show more than 1 inch of cleavage or wear a skirt that skims your bum. For most offices, skirts that hit more than 3 or 4 inches above the knee are considered inappropriate (If you want to wear shorter skirts, or even dress shorts, pair them with opaque tights to temper the higher hemline). Also, no tank tops unless you have something layered over it to cover your shoulders.
  • Thou shalt not wear any ripped, torn, or sloppy clothing. This includes anything that can be worn to the gym or the beach (gym shoes and flip-flops etc.).
  • Thou shalt dress like my female boss. If you do not have a female boss, emulate the highest-ranking female in your company. This doesn’t mean steal her style. Rather, base your office attire on what she considers appropriate. Is she casual? Always dresses to the nines? Take a cue from the people in positions you aspire to have someday. They don’t say, “dress the part” for no reason.
  • You shall always dress to impress—even on “casual Fridays.” Don’t let casual Fridays fool you. Jeans may be okay, but that old tee reserved for lazy Sundays and those hot pink flip-flops are just not going to cut it… Casual Friday attire should be based on your weekly work wear, but taken down a few notches.
  • Thou shalt not don underwear as outerwear. Ever. This is pretty self-explanatory…
  • You shall always use your best judgment. Consider your work environment and dress accordingly. Anything you can wear to a club should never step foot in an office. If you’re unsure about an outfit, it’s best to err on the side of caution and go with something else.
I hope you find these tips helpful! Stay tuned for my upcoming Dress Coding blogs where I’ll crack those mysterious office dress codes. First up, business formal work attire!

If you’re a working girl, what’s your work environment like and what’s your go-to office outfit?

XO Lauren

P.S. These rules apply to interns too!

I'm in Love....

25 February 2011

Ladies and gentlemen, I am in love.....with the new dresses at Lulus.com. They're bright, funky, and fun, all characteristics of what this spring's fashion is all about. The fits are modest which is a big plus for me. I like a form fitting dress but it gets to be a nuisance sucking it in sometimes. (Ladies you know what I'm talking about and don't deny it, you do it too) Log onto Lulus.com and click on the "What's New" tab to take a look. Here's my top choices...

How gorgeous is this dress? It's fun, light, airy, and different. I'd wear it to a party, dinner, or fashion week. Really want to make this "Ice Falls" dress daring? Try pairing it with some funky tights like leopard or zebra print to stand out.
